Topic: Meditation: How, why, and tools
Format: Blog posts, podcasts, and links
Reviewer/email: Mike G – greers_pm@yahoo.com

Beginners Guide to

If you’re like most of us, you wish your vacations would last much longer. In fact, I confess that I used to start feeling the dread of “vacation’s over” several days before my precious vacation was actually over.  I’ve since discovered, however, that my meditation practice provides me with brief, refreshing “daily vacations” every day.  So this year, why not use your official vacation time to learn to meditate? Unlike that sunburn and your empty wallet, your new meditation practice will continue providing daily benefits long after your official vacation’s just a memory.

Should You Train Your Brain? You Decide.

Topic: Brain Training and Brain Games
Format: Collection of informative websites and free brain games
Reviewer/email: Mike G – greers_pm@yahoo.com

Recently, the BBC’s Lab UK , posted the following statement at its website (my bold added for emphasis):

In September 2009, we launched the Brain Test Britain experiment to answer the question: does brain training actually work? We asked the public to help and you responded in your thousands, making this the biggest ever study of its kind. … [This study] has found no evidence that playing brain training games can meaningfully boost your ‘brain power’.

As you can imagine, this set off a storm of controversy. In this post, we provide an overview of this controversy and plenty of links to resources that will help you decide: Is brain training worth the effort? And if so, where can you go to get the tools to train your brain?

Thought Vibration (The Law of Attraction in the Thought World)

Topic: The Law of Attraction
Format: MP3 audio (1 hr. 47 min. download; free, but registration required)
Reviewer/email: Mike G – greers_pm@yahoo.com

This audio is flat out amazing! It’s a powerful, intelligent reading of all 16 Chapters of William Walker Atkinson’s 1906 Thought Vibration, or the Law of Attraction in the Thought World. This work is one of the foundations of the “new thought” principles that you might have come to know through the movie and book, The Secret, as well as all manner of publications related to the Law of Attraction. I originally downloaded this out of idle curiosity — to learn a bit about the roots of The Law of Attraction. But I was blown away by the crispness and vigor of Atkinson’s writing — the clean, direct expression and force of his ideas. And these are beautifully and energetically rendered by narrator David Mitchell.  This no soothing, sleepy, new-age audio — it’s an “in your face” tour-de-force that will challenge you to rethink what you believe about the way you think. And if you think you know all about The Law of Attraction, then this work is likely to surprise you with some new content and a sometimes edgy attitude. I loved it!
